Best 12 sofas for small spaces in 2023

Well I hope you all had a wonderful new year and that 2023 brings you all sorts of love and laughter!

Purchasing the perfectly sized sofa for a small space is tough. 
There are more things to think about than what initially comes to mind!  Here's a few tips!

1. Hallways and doors:  ensure you have enough clearance, especially for the corners! When designing for my clients with smaller spaces, the first thing that I do is ensure the sofa can fit through hallways and then into the room. I want to ensure that whichever sofa I select will fit through the entry doors, hallways, elevator, and stairwells.  It's something my clients don't often think of, but I have seen too many homes where people are struggling to get the oversized sectional into an elevator or up a narrow staircase — this happened to my neighbors this week!
2. Arms:  Many sofa arms can be over 12" wide, choosing a couch with arms that wide can sometimes mean you don't have room for an end table!
3. Legs: Short, dark, wide sofa legs can make the overall sofa look visually heavy.  Choose thinner legs whenever possible.
4. Color:  Choosing a sofa in a color that is similar to your wall is a great way to help the sofa appear less obtrusive.  Remember you can always paint your wall to work with your new sofa!
5. Budget: I ask my clients if they will be residing in that smaller space for five years or more. If so, they can go with a more high-quality sofa.  If it's less than five years. I tend to suggest budget friendly sofas as the clients may possibly be living in a larger space that will require larger furniture in the future.
6. Size:  This is an easy one. A good rule of thumb is to have the width of the couch no longer than 2/3rds the width of the wall.
7. Style: selecting a sofa with clean lines, straight arms instantly makes the sofa look smaller, without sacrificing any of the size.
